Here we go again!

        Hello, lovelies.

After everything we put into the first lockdown, the sacrifices we made, the queues we stood in, the news is that prime minster Boris Johnson has announced new measures to slow the spread of the virus. He stressed that this may not mean the return of a full lockdown, but the UK has reached a 'perilous turning point,' in the fight against coronavirus. Will this mean the end of our small but hard-won freedoms? We will all have to go back to Skyping our loved ones? Or have we learnt enough to get it right this time?

With the introduction of all pubs, restaurants and bars closing at 10pm from 24th, and all those working in retail, or those in indoor hospitality and whilst travelling in taxis will have to wear masks or face coverings. It seems that there may be some dark skies ahead. Those who were told that it was important and safe to go back to work are now urged to work from home. And my children are actually scared that they might close schools again. What a world where my kids are now desperate to leave the house and go to school. The government is warning us that we are in the 'last chance saloon,' and that we may be getting close to it all being too late. With fines the new threat to force us to stay safe, and another 6 months has been promised of lockdown measures, and if that doesn't work, then it will be another 6 months after that.

We thought we had defeated the virus. Shops threw open their doors and we all gladly walked in. Life was beginning to look good again. But with flu season creeping up on us and with the daily numbers of positive corona test rising, we are about to have those strict measures placed on our lives again. We knew about the rule of 6.  Is it all our own fault that it has come to this? Did we flout the rules and are now feeling the consequences? If we listen to the government, we're the cause of the increase in Corona numbers. First it was the care workers. Then the scientists. And now it's our fault. We didn't follow the rules. We brought this down on us. We only have ourselves to blame. All this from the man who has flouted the lockdown rules himself. The Tories invested £35 million on the track and trace app that has been plagued with problems. Without realising that the app was a digital divide between those who can afford a smart phone and those who can’t.

So, what is the emotional toll of this new lockdown? We are exhausted. Not being able to meet up with your family and friends has been almost impossible. Not being able to hug and embrace all those that we haven't seen for months is almost too much to bear. It's an emotional punch in the gut as we must do it all over again. New high levels of anxiety, fear, depression as the days grow shorter with winter on its way. And a new sense of powerlessness.  Will we really have to do it all over again? How many more will needlessly die due to the lack of action by the government? As of today, the number of reported deaths is 41,971. That's 41,971 people in Britain that died thanks to this awful virus.

Should the government grow up, apologise and take responsibility for the mess they made? They need to stop handing out multi million-pound deals to their friends that have no idea what they're doing, and do not deliver what they promised.

But what can we do to survive the next wave? Self-care is the most important thing. We need to reduce what we are doing, and only focus on the things that we can do well, and not try to do it all at once. Having a proper routine with plenty of sleep and a healthy diet. Plenty of walks, and long talks on the phone to our friends and family. And for me I need to remember that this is not going to last forever. We are all very resilient. But we need to look out for those who may struggle. Lets look after ourselves, and each other.
